If your Comment-to-DM automation isn't working the way you expect, don't worry - most issues come down to a quick setting or configuration that's easy to fix. Go through this checklist one step at a time and you'll have it running again in no time.
Before you start: Make sure you have set up your AI ECHO-ME Agent Team and configured your Comment-to-DM Agent. If you haven't, read:

Before You Post
- Check your Instagram account type - Your Instagram account needs to be a Creator or Business account for automations to work. Personal accounts don't support Comment-to-DM properly. Go to your Instagram settings and switch your account type if needed.
- Make sure your Meta accounts are connected correctly - If your automation suddenly stopped working, disconnect and reconnect your Instagram or Facebook account. Meta permissions can expire without warning. To reconnect, read: How to Reconnect Your Meta Accounts to POP.STORE
- Check your DM and message settings - Your Instagram DMs need to be open for automated messages to reach your followers. Check your message request settings and make sure connected tools have messaging permissions. Also confirm that story replies are enabled.
- Check if other automation tools are connected - If you're also using ManyChat or any other comment automation tool, they may conflict with POP.STORE's Comment-to-DM. Disconnect any conflicting tools and test again.
When Setting Up Your Offer
-
Make sure your flow is live - In Legacy Mode, it's easy to save a flow without publishing it. Double-check that your automation is actually turned on and live, not just saved as a draft.
In AI Mode, you can save an offer but it won't start working until you create a new Instagram or Facebook post and include the offer name in the caption. Once the post is live with the offer name, ECHO will detect it automatically and the flow will begin.
-
Confirm the right post or reel is connected - In Legacy Mode, check that your automation is attached to the correct post or reel. It's easy to accidentally connect it to the wrong piece of content.
In AI Mode, check your offer settings and confirm you've added the correct destination link - whether that's the right product, video, or any Pop.Store Item you want followers to land on.
-
Use a unique keyword - In Legacy Mode, generic words like "link" or "yes" can sometimes conflict with other automations or get filtered. Try something more specific like "guide2026", "dreamhome", or "start". Make sure the keyword in your caption matches exactly what you've set in the automation - same spelling, no extra spaces or punctuation.
In AI Mode, once you include the offer name in your caption, ECHO detects it automatically and starts the flow. No keyword configuration needed post by post.
After You Post
- Test using another account - Never test your own automation from your connected account. Use a friend's account or a backup account to comment the keyword and see if the DM comes through.
- Comment the exact keyword - When testing, make sure the keyword is spelled exactly as set - no extra punctuation, spaces, or typos. Even a small difference can stop the flow from triggering.
- Wait a few minutes before retesting - Instagram and Meta sometimes delay triggers temporarily. If it doesn't fire immediately, wait a few minutes and try again before assuming something is broken.
- Check if the post is a collaboration post - If the post was published as a collab, the automation may not trigger correctly if you are not the original poster. Test on a standard post first.
If It Suddenly Stops Working
- Reconnect your Facebook and Instagram permissions - Meta permissions occasionally expire without warning. Go to your settings and reconnect your accounts to refresh the permissions. Read: How to Reconnect Your Meta Accounts to POP.STORE
- Avoid editing comments after posting - Edited comments may not trigger the automation. Always use a fresh, unedited comment when testing.
- Check if Instagram has temporarily restricted your account - Heavy DM activity or repeated testing in a short period can trigger temporary limits on your account. If you've been testing a lot, give it a few hours before trying again.
- Recreate the automation from scratch - If the flow still isn't working after everything above, delete it and rebuild it from scratch. A fresh setup often clears issues that are hard to diagnose.
If you've gone through everything on this list and the automation still isn't firing, reach out to POP.STORE support.
